A1.The ML350 G5 QuickSpecs include descriptions of all models of the ProLiant ML350 G5 and an extensive list of supported options from HP.
Q2.What new HP ProLiant ML350 G5 models are being offered?
A2.ML350 G5 supports the latest Intel® Xeon® 5x00 sequence processors. The 5100 and 5200 series processors are 2 core with 4MB or 6MB of L2 cache and up to 1333 MHz FSB. The 5300 and 5400 series processors are 4 core with 8MB or 12MB of L2 cache and up to 1333 MHz FSB currently.

Q4.What are the configuration options for Hard drives on the ML350 G5 Server?
A4.The ProLiant ML350 G5 server is the only G5 platform to offer both 3.5-inch (LFF) and 2.5-inch (SFF) SAS+SATA hard drive capabilities.

Customers can choose between supporting 6 LFF or 8 SFF SAS+SATA drives initially. Both cages support both SAS and SATA drives on the same controller.

The 6 port LFF drive cage offers both high capacity/high speed (15K) SAS and the high capacity/low cost SATA drives. The 8 port SFF drive cage offers the low power (9W)/high reliability SAS and the low cost/energy efficient SATA drives.
Q5.What ML350 G3 or G4 components/options can be shared with the ML350 G5?
A5.Both PCI card based and media bay based options from previous ML350 models can be shared with the ML350 G5. Due to the new technologies implemented in this generation, unique options, processors, and memory cannot be shared. Please consult the product QuickSpecs for more information on supported options.

Q7.The ProLiant ML350 G5 uses Fully Buffered DIMM's (FBD) memory. What is Fully Buffered DIMM's memory and why is it important to me?
A7.Fully Buffered DIMM's (FBD), a new memory architecture, addresses scaling needs of capacity and bandwidth enabling memory to keep pace with processor and I/O improvements. Typical DRAM subsystems use a stub-bus (parallel path) topology that requires the data signals from the memory controller be electrically connected to the data lines of every DRAM module on the bus. Until now, server designers have had to choose between limiting memory density to reduce high-speed errors or accepting slower speed to achieve high density. With the introduction of FBDIMM's, designers get a solution that increases reliability, speed, and density.

Fully Buffered DIMM's use an Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) chip that maintains signal integrity and improved error detection methods that reduce soft errors, making fully buffered DIMM's an ideal system memory solution. Using a point-to-point architecture, the AMB transmits signals among the controller, memory devices, and other modules without sacrificing signal integrity or speed. Unlike modules with stub-bus (parallel path) architecture, FBDIMMs move data serially between the AMB and memory controller.
Q8.What is a Serial Attached SCSI?
A8.Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is the logical evolution of the SCSI interface that satisfies the enterprise data center requirement of scalability, performance, reliability and manageability, while providing an enterprise storage infrastructure for both enterprise SAS drives and SATA disk drives. The SAS interface is compatible with SATA devices. This compatibility provides users with unprecedented choices for server and storage subsystem deployment.
Q9.What are the end user benefits of Serial Attached SCSI?
A9.Key end user benefits include enterprise class robustness, investment protection in compatible SCSI software and middleware and the choice of direct-attach storage devices (SAS or SATA). In addition, greater performance, smaller form factors and greater addressability will all lead to a new level of flexibility when deploying mainstream data center servers and subsystems. Since SAS is based on the foundation of the industry-leading SCSI specification, reliability and peace of mind will satisfy user's needs for continuity in the data center.

Q11.Is the Smart Array E200 or P400 controller backwards compatible to Ultra2, Ultra3, and Ultra320 SCSI?
A11.No, serial attached SCSI controllers are not compatible with parallel SCSI devices.
Q12.Will the Smart Array E200 or P400 support external drives?
A12.No. The Smart Array E200 & P400 have 8, 3Gb SAS ports supporting two internal connections using the controllers x4 Wide SAS Ports.
Q13.What RAID levels are supported by the Smart Array E200?
A13.The SA-E200/64 supports RAID 0, 1 and 1+0.. RAID 5 is available by adding the 128MB BBWC upgrade.
Q14.What RAID levels are supported by the Smart Array P400?
A14.The SA-P400/256 supports RAID 0, 1, 1+0 and 5. RAID 6 (Advanced Data Guarding) is available by adding either the BBWC upgrade or the 512 BBWC upgrade.
Q15.Will the SA-E200 & SA-P400 support standard server DIMM memory?
A15.No. The controller DIMM socket is not designed to accommodate standard DIMM memory because standard server memory DIMM does not support battery back-up and does not meet fault tolerant standards for a RAID controller.
