Overview

The HP DC SAN Directors are the most advanced B-Series director-class switches that combine breakthrough performance, scalability, and energy efficiency with long-term investment protection. They are designed to address the data growth and application demands of next generation data centers; enable server, SAN, and data center consolidation; and reduce infrastructure and administrative costs. The 14U DC SAN Backbone Director has eight vertical blade slots to provide up to 384 Fibre Channel (FC) ports and is targeted for large enterprise networks. The 9U DC04 SAN Director has four horizontal blade slots to provide up to 192 FC ports and is targeted for midsize networks. Both models feature high-speed Inter-Chassis Link (ICL) ports to connect two SAN directors, providing extensive scalability and flexibility at the network core. At the network edge, organizations can utilize B-series 8Gb switches, 4/256 SAN Director, or—for complete enterprise class capabilities—the DC04 SAN Director.

Features

8Gb platform in two modular form factors: Greater bandwidth is needed at the core to ensure uncongested throughput and to deliver fabric based applications on a large scale
256 Gbit/sec of bandwidth per slot: Faster connection speeds are needed for high demand open system or mainframe applications
No oversubscription: Non-oversubscribed switching architecture enhances server scalability by enabling the rapid growth of virtual servers without compromising data center performance
Two modular form factors for high scalability: The 14U DC SAN Backbone Director Supports 384 ports in a single domain and the 9U DC04 SAN Director Supports 192 in a single domain
256 Gbit/sec - 512 Gbit/sec of ICL bandwidth: Inter Chassis Link bandwidth preserves 32 - 64 fibre channel ports per chassis for host and storage device connectivity
Multi Protocol Support: Flexible options in which to scale the size of a SAN performance or density with Fibre Channel, iSCSI ready, FCIP, FICON, and FCoE ready
Optional Fibre Channel Integrated Routing license: Eliminates the need for additional hardware like special purpose blades or routers to connect servers and storage in separate fabrics
Optional SAN Extension: SAN extension over long distance IP connections accelerates offsite replication, backup, and restore for improved disaster recovery
Investment protection: Fully compatible with existing B-series family with 1/2/4/8/10 fibre channel support
Improved Quality of Service (QoS): Adaptive Networking is a suite of tools to provide Quality of Service (QoS) features designed to improve fabric behavior to ensure ample bandwidth for critical applications
