The HP StorageWorks IP Distance Gateway provides SAN over WAN connectivity for protecting and replicating data between HP EVA systems. By connecting islands of SANs over WANs, the IP Distance Gateway enables continuous access replication, both asynchronous and synchronous, SAN device sharing, data migration and other long distance data services. At the core of providing long distance data services is the ability to copy, move and replicate data, both locally and over long distances, however, SANs have limited distance capabilities (35km) and IT managers need to share, protect and move data over greater distances than 35km. An alternative to Routers and switches, the IP Distance Gateway uses the FCIP (Fibre Channel Internet Protocol) standard to extend SAN connectivity.

Agility - Can grow and expand SANs without limitations: The IP Distance Gateway allows for SAN device sharing and data replication services for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) systems. It facilitates SAN growth and scalability without the limitations imposed on Fibre Channel SANs.

Simplicity - Utilizes established IP for data replication: The IP Distance Gateway provides SAN connectivity over WANs by routing Fibre Channel over standard Ethernet, expanding and bridging SANs around the globe. Individual SANs can still be managed using localized resources.

Value - Enables SAN device sharing: The IP Distance Gateway increases customer return on investment by enabling SANs to grow and scale independently.
