  • AMD Opteron model 2352 2.1GHz, 75 Watts
  • Q2. Why has HP delivered ProLiant servers with Opteron processor technology?
A2. HP has a history of delivering servers which offer outstanding performance, versatility, uptime, and manageability. The ProLiant server family is the most trusted server line in the industry, based on volumes sold. Opteron processor technology allows us to deliver specific enhanced features and continue delivering the broadest server line to our customers.
Q3. What memory does the ProLiant DL385 G5 support? Is it interleaved?
A3. The DL385 G5 supports up to 32GB of dual-interleaved PC5300 DDR2 (with 4GB DIMMs). Base models come standard with 2GB (2?GB). Memory is interleaved and must be installed in pairs. Please see the DL385 G5 Quickspecs for additional information.

A1. The DL385 G5 includes optional support for:
    • AMD Opteron Quad-core processors

    Q3. What DL380 G5 components/options can be shared with the DL385 G5?
A3. The DL380 G5, DVD, CD-ROM, HDD, DC and AC power supply are identical to those included in the DL385 G5. These are the only components that can be shared.
    Health & Management
Q1. What server management software and features are supported on the ProLiant DL385 G5?
A1. The ProLiant DL385 G5 offers a number of industry-leading server management software and features to help you manage your server faster and easier than ever before, which helps to lower your total cost of owning this server. Some of these include:
    • ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack (SmartStart, HP System Insight Manager, System Management Homepage)
    • ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack
    • Integrated Lights-Out (ILO2)
Q2. What is the purpose of the UID?
A2. The Unit Identification light (UID) is a feature of all DL servers that allows the user to distinguish which server they are working on in the rack. The UID can be lit from the Insight Manager console, as well as at the server by pressing either the front or rear UID button. Once lit, the LED will be blue to help the user identify the unit
Q3. What are the system health LEDs used for? What do the different colors mean (green, red, amber)?
A3. The front panel and internal LEDs are used to help diagnose a server failure. When an internal component fails, the indication is made on an internal component LED (amber) and on the front panel. If the item is serviceable without removing the server hood, as in the case of a redundant power supply failure, the External Health LED will illuminate. If the item is serviceable by removing the hood, as in the case of a fan failure, the Internal Health LED will illuminate.

If no failures have occurred, the system health LEDs will be green. If a failure has occurred, but a redundant feature has enabled the system to continue running, the LED will be amber. If the failure is critical and is/has caused the system to shutdown, the LED will be red. These LEDs serve as local indicators for several failure conditions. Insight Manager will continue to report these, and many other failure conditions, as well.

    Q4. What is Integrated Lights-Out (iLO2)?
A4. Integrated Lights-Out (ILO2) is HP's lights-out technology embedded on selected ProLiant servers. There are two versions of Integrated Lights-Out available to meet customers varying remote management needs. The iLO Standard features are available free of charge on supported ProLiant servers. The iLO Standard features include, simplified setup, text-based console for access to server boot sequences and text-mode operating system console, group configuration and server actions, remote power on/off, SSL security, detailed server status, logs, alert forwarding, virtual indicators, diagnostics, and automatic server recovery.

Customers can easily upgrade iLO Standard to iLO Advanced by purchasing the ProLiant Essentials iLO Advanced Pack which provides a license key for switching on the advanced functionality of iLO. The iLO Advanced feature suite include Virtual Graphical Console and Virtual Floppy Drive that provide significant cost savings by removing any advantages of being physically present in front of the server for routine access and maintenance.

For additional information visit the iLo website.
Q5. What are the advantages of AMD's new PowerNow! technology, and what operating systems and processors support the new technology?
A5. AMD's PowerNow! is an ACPI-based OS demand-based switching technology that allows the processors to run dynamically at different frequencies and voltages depending upon CPU computing demand. Therefore, PowerNow! enables lower server power consumption without compromises in performance. AMD PowerNow! Technology enables the CPU to:
    • Run at multiple performance states (frequency and voltage combinations)
    • Switch among multiple performance states (controlled by software), without having to reset CPU or change FSB frequency
