What is the new GPS Navigation System for the HP iPAQ Pocket PC?
The GPS Navigation System allows you to turn your Bluetooth® enabled iPAQ Pocket PC into a complete in-vehicle
navigation system. With a Bluetooth GPS receiver and powerful navigation software, the GPS Navigation System can
give you turn-by-turn directions with visual and spoken guidance to any address nationwide.

Will GPS work in any country and do I need to purchase or subscribe to a GPS Service?
GPS is a global system with no user fees (free to international public). The GPS Navigation System contains all the
hardware and software needed to use your iPAQ Pocket PC for in-vehicle navigation.

What do I need to do to make certain I get a GPS signal?
A GPS signal can be received anywhere on the face of the earth with a clear view of the sky. However mapping and
routing functions are dependent on having maps that cover the area of interest.

What iPAQ Pocket PC model are supported with the GPS Navigation System?
The GPS Navigation System is designed to run on your Bluetooth enabled iPAQ Pocket PC. The following Bluetooth
enabled iPAQ Pocket PC models are supported:
- iPAQ Pocket PC h1940 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h3870 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h3970 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h4150 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h5150 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h5450 series
- iPAQ Pocket PC h5550 series

What is dynamic routing?
Dynamic routing is the calculation required to determine the drive movements necessary to arrive at a destination. The
digital maps used in the GPS Navigation System contain street information such as turn restrictions, one-way
direction and speed limits that allows the software to accurately provide driving directions.

Can I select the type of roads that will route me to my destination?
Yes, you can choose your preferred route options by selecting Quickest (for the shortest drive time), Shortest (for the
shortest distance), Major (to utilize major highways and interstates), or Local (for avoiding major highways and
interstates).

Can I fit the entire US map database on my iPAQ?
No. The maps contained within the GPS Navigation System are quite large, so you will not be able to store all of
the data for North America on your iPAQ Pocket PC or a storage card at the same time. The Navigation system enables you
to download map data in a variety of ways: by state or by city. You will need to select either to download states OR
cities - you cannot load both options within the Pocket PC at the same time. The size of maps that you will be able to
store and manipulate is determined not only by the storage space available on your device (main memory, SD card, or CF
card) but also by the processing power of your iPAQ Pocket PC. To optimize the speed and performance of your Navigation
System it is recommended that you limit the size of map data that you download to your device to <100MB. Please note
that downloading maps may take from a few minutes to over half an hour, dependent upon the size of the data download and
the capabilities of your iPAQ Pocket PC and desktop PC.

What kind of Points of Interest are available?
You can select from the following Points of Interests: Airport, Bank/ATM, Entertainment, Gas Station, Emergency,
Hotel/Motel, Parking and Restaurants. After selecting the category you then have the option of searching alphabetically
or by distance. You can also choose to change the city in which you wish to search.

Can I save frequent destinations?
After entering a destination using the address, you can tap FAV, and then OK to add the address to your favorites list.
You can add a label to your favorite addresses.

How can I tell if my Bluetooth enabled GPS receiver is connected?
To see if your Bluetooth enabled device is connected, go to Bluetooth Manager on your iPAQ and view 'active connections'.
One blink every two seconds of the blue LED on your GPS receiver means the GPS receiver has connected to your PDA.

Where should I place/locate my GPS receiver?
Place your GPS receiver anywhere in your car or within 30 feet proximity of the PDA. For best results the GPS unit
needs to be anywhere with a clear line of sight to the sky. Your Bluetooth GPS receiver has a slip-proof plate on the
bottom to allow you to firmly place your GPS unit.

How long can I use the receiver without recharging?
The Bluetooth enabled GPS receiver has low power usage. A single charge will usually last up to eight hours, though
performance will be adversely impacted at low battery charge.

What do the blinking lights on my GPS receiver indicate?
The LEDs on your Bluetooth GPS receiver have the following meaning:
- Blue LED light: One blink per second means the GPS receiver is ready for a Bluetooth enabled partnering.
- Blue LED light: One blink every two seconds means the GPS receiver has connected to your PDA.
- Green LED light: Constant means the GPS receiver does not have a GPS fix.
- Green LED light: Blinking means the GPS receiver has obtained a GPS fix.
- Red/Orange LED light: Red constant means low power and the unit should be recharged.

How long will it take me to have my location recognized?
The first time the GPS receiver is used it takes approximately 5 minutes to acquire a fix (but may take as long as 15
minutes). Once initialized, the unit should acquire satellite signals in 90 seconds or less in the future. When the
GPS unit is first initialized it can take several minutes for the receiver to locate the satellites in orbit. Be sure
that the GPS receiver has an unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, buildings, and other obstacles are capable of blocking
the satellite signal. Also make sure to have the time and date properly set on your Pocket PC.

What should I do if my GPS Bluetooth receiver suddenly stops communicating with my host device/my iPAQ?
This can be caused by many things. The first thing to do is switch the GPS Bluetooth receiver off and then power on
again. Close the navigation application on your PDA. Make sure the application is terminated properly and try again.
If all the above fails you should also perform a soft reset of your iPAQ Pocket PC.

Why can't I find a street/address/location?
While map data is continually updated, it is possible that you may find some discrepancies in the map data - particularly
for new addresses or streets. It is for this reason that it is important to register to ensure you are notified of the
latest updates.

How can I make certain I have the latest map data?
It is important to make certain you have registered your product so that you can be notified as soon as map updates are
available for purchase. You will receive a reminder in the GPS Navigation System software when the map content may
have become dated. You can also go to
http://www.hp.com/go/ipaqnavigation to find out more
information about map updates.
