The DL785 G5 supports double the processor and memory capacity of the DL585 G5, has greater I/O expansion capability with 11 PCI-e slots, option for the I/O expansion 7 PCIe and 2 HTx slots and the option to upgrade from the standard internal storage capacity of 8 HDD, to 16 HDD. |

What is new about the Opteron 8300 Series processors? |

The AMD Opteron 8300 series of processors introduce native quad-core to the Opteron family. Other features of the 8300 series of processors include:
- Independent Dynamic Core Technology, which generates power savings from independent control of frequency per core;
- AMD CoolCore™ Technology, which yields power savings through coarse & fine transistor control inside the processor;
- Dual Dynamic Power Management™, which yields power savings and/or increased performance by providing independent voltage planes for cores and memory controllers;
- AMD Wide Floating Point Accelerator, which provides increased floating point performance though a 128-bit floating-point pipeline;
- Rapid Virtualization Indexing, increasing virtualization performance though Nested Page Tables and Tagged TLBs

- The DL785 G5 will support increments of 4 and 8 processors only.
- DIMMs installed in the same memory bank must have the same part number
- DIMMs installed in different banks can be different sizes
- DIMMs must be installed in decreasing capacity with the largest DIMMs installed in the banks furthest away from the processor
